Bengal burning in the fire of violence, 5 died in nomination for Panchayat elections; more than 90 injured

West Bengal witnesses continued violence and clashes during the nomination phase of the Panchayat elections, resulting in five deaths and over 90 injuries. However, the official figure has not yet been released in this regard.

According to sources in the State Election Commission, since the beginning of the filing of nominations at night, there have been 30 incidents of clashes day and night.

On completion of the six-day period for submission of nominations, the State Election Commission said that two lakh 15 thousand nominations have been submitted till 9.30 pm on Thursday. This nomination is for Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad seats.

On Thursday for filing nominations, however, state government sources admitted three deaths in South 24 Parganas, while two in Murshidabad's Navagram and Khargram.

30 clashes took place during nomination, more than 90 injured

According to the commission, 90 people were injured in the clashes that took place during these few days of nomination. According to the sources of the commission, since the beginning of the submission of nominations at night, there have been 30 incidents of clashes day and night.

According to the State Election Commission, 30 firearms and 56 bombs were recovered. 4787 licensed rifles have been recovered. According to the commission, 1800 people have been arrested under the non-bailable section.

Over 2 lakh nominations filed, TMC leads

In the first four days of nomination, the opposition was ahead in filing nominations at all the three panchayat levels. According to the Election Commission, Trinamool has defeated the opposition by fielding candidates in almost all the seats in the last two days. In the list of candidates, BJP is second, Left is third.
